This May, the Gangneung Art Center is preparing for its first planned exhibition of 2023, featuring British contemporary art masters Michael Craig-Martin and Rose Wylie, to transform the everyday lives of citizens into art.

The exhibition serves as a meeting of two world-renowned British contemporary artists and is the last chance in South Korea to see original works by Michael Craig-Martin and Rose Wylie together.

It will be open to the public from May 3 (Wed) to June 11 (Sun) in Exhibition Halls 1, 2, and 3 of the Gangneung Art Center.

The exhibition, which is divided into three themes--Everyday Quotations, Prologue & Epilogue, and Metaphorical Objects--presents more than 50 works, including paintings, drawings, and prints, introducing the artists' unique worldviews through different perspectives.

Michael Craig-Martin, known as a first-generation British conceptual artist and mentor to many young artists, including the infamous Damien Hirst, is currently a prolific artist represented by one of the world's top three galleries, Gagosian Gallery.

Rose Wylie, who rose to superstardom as a ‘late-blooming grandmother artist’ at the age of 86 and gaining worldwide love after being the oldest emerging artist at 76, is a contemporary art master who has been receiving international attention as an exclusive artist for David Zwirne.

Various events and educational programs will take place during the exhibition period, with docent tours offering a glimpse into the artists' unique world available from Tuesday to Sunday at 11 AM, 2 PM, and 4 PM. Group visits of 20 or more people must be reserved in advance.

Exhibition hours are from 10 AM to 8 PM, and discounted advance tickets can be purchased on the Gangneung Art Center website until April 30.

In an effort to revitalize the local economy and actively attract tourists following the recent Gangneung wildfire, various exhibition ticket discount promotions are underway.

Travel packages offering discounted admission (up to 10% off train tickets and 50% off admission) can be purchased through KTX's Korail reservation system, KorailTalk, or on the Korail website until June 11.

Additionally, five participating hotels will offer a 50% discount on exhibition admission to guests staying during the promotion period.

Information on participating hotels and further details can be found on the Gangneung Art Center website (gn.go.kr/artscenter/).

Director Shim Kyu-man expressed, "Through this promotion in collaboration with local institutions, we hope to provide diverse services to tourists as a cultural tourism city and support the local economy during challenging times."
