Media art, which utilizes the medium of images, is interesting
because it allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the work.
You can experience these magical creations of light that
transcend the constraints of space and timein Gangneung.
ARTE Museum Valley Gangneung is an immersive media art exhibition located near Gyeongpoho Lake.
As suggested by the “Valley” in its name, it showcases 12 thematic media art installations that
reflect the mountainous characteristics of Gangwon-do and Gangneung,
which are located at the center of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range.
The visual intensity and sensorial sounds will transport you through time and space and immerse you in the artwork.
Works themed under “ETERNAL NATURE” reinterpret the beauty of nature,
presented in classical works, in the form of media art.
The sound of waves and the visuals are realistic enough to make it appear as if you are on the beach.
The waterfall, dropping from a height of 8 m, likewise resembles a real-life waterfall.
“STAR,” a fantastic space that showcases the beauty of light and sounds through wind, thunder, and raindrops,
really lives up to its name, for one feels as if one is drifting through the great void.
“SUN” is a photographer’s favorite, bringing the intense energy and light of the sun to reality.
Take up your favorite pose and complete your work of art.
“GARDEN” is a collection of classics that represent the history of Western art.
Take a look around, then pick out a place for some contemplation in music.

Ojukheon House through Media Art
Yulgok Personality Education Center
Ojukheon House is an early Joseon-era building where Shin Saimdang,
an artist known for her poetry, paintings, and embroidery, and Yi I (pen name: Yulgok),
her son and one of the foremost scholars of Joseon, were born.
It is a cultural heritage designated as a Treasure, so it is a popular tourist site that any visitor to Gangneung visits.
If you are planning to visit Ojukheon House, don’t miss the new media art space, the Yulgok Personality Education Center,
right across from the place where one ends up after circling the house.
The Yulgok Personality Education Center is a digital experience space
that showcases the story of Shin Saimdang and Yulgok Yi I,
the two most famous figures of Gangneung, and their legacy in Korean literature and art.
The underground floor has the “Immersive Screening Room,” which screens the media art “Saimdang’s Field,”
inspired by Saimdang’s masterpiece, “Painting of Grass and Insects.”
The flowers and insects, once brought to life with Saimdang’s elegant touch,
are reborn into living, breathing works of media art.
Tradition meets new art, and transcends time and space to become art realized through light.
