2024 Gangneung Danoje Festival
The Gangneung Danoje Festival, recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and National Intangible Cultural Heritage, will be held from June 6 to June 13 at the Gangneung Namdaecheon event venue. As a thousand-year-old festival and one of Korea’s most iconic celebrations, the 2024 Gangneung Danoje Festival will feature the essence of traditional culture with jerye (sacrificial rites), gutpan (shamanistic rites), where gods and humans communicate, and the nation’s largest nanjang (marketplace). There are 66 programs across 13 categories, including nationally designated cultural heritage events, citizen participation activities, and traditional folk games.
This year’s festival highlights performances. New this year are the interactive performance “Dano of Nostalgia” and the “Yeongsanhong Concert,” themed around the folk song entitled ”Yeongsanhong” from the Gangneung Danoje Festival. In addition, there will be vibrant international performances from Malaysia, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan. The grand parade, “Sintongdaegil Gilnori,” created with the participation of all Gangneung citizens, promises to be a spectacular highlight. 2024 Gangneung Beach Beer Festival
The 2024 Gangneung Beach Beer Festival will take place at Gyeongpohaebyeon Beach from June 28 to June 30. This annual summer festival, held at Gyeongpo Beach Central Square, is a local beer festival where you can taste a variety of craft beers from different regions of Korea alongside Gangneung’s local food. This year, a healing zone themed around Waikiki will be introduced, allowing you to experience the romance of Waikiki at Gyeongpohaebyeon Beach.
The festival kicks off with an opening performance at 7:00 p.m. on the first day, followed by nightly performances, busking, and DJing. There will also be a “flea market” featuring local crafts, a “Beer Docent” storytelling session in the pine forest, a plogging event, and a walk around Gyeongpo Lake. Enjoy the romance of the summer beach with a refreshing beer at Gyeongpohaebyeon Beach.
