The Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival (JIFF), which has been held since 1999, is a summer festival created by for Gangneung Cinematheque and independent filmmakers. Independent films are screened to promote communication between independent filmmakers and film enthusiasts. In addition to the opening ceremony held in the presence of visitors, various other events and programs are organized such as a dialogue session where the audience is given an opportunity to communicate with the directors and actors and the Ttaenggeurang Dongjeon Awards where the audience vote for their favorite films with coins.
This is a unique film festival where all films are screened outdoors on the first weekend of August every year on the sports field of Jeongdong Elementary School in Gangneung.
The Korean Film Archive, as a co-host of the event since 2002, provides all outdoor screening facilities and equipment.
