Gangneung City Art Museum Gyodong presents <Ordinary People – A Record of the Everyday>, a solo exhibition by artist Qwaya, who paints scenes from ordinary daily life. 

Qwaya’s paintings center on the simple, natural moments of daily life – people around us, those the artist has met, situations personally experienced, and stories heard from others. These familiar scenes invite viewers to see their own surroundings, circumstances, and experiences reflected in the work.

This exhibition sheds light on the extraordinary stories found within the seemingly mundane lives of ordinary people. Qwaya’s paintings, which reflect various figures, begin as brief notes and evolve through changes in the act of painting itself. The artist hopes their work will spark conversation, rooted in their sincerity towards their creative process, an honesty they consider the most essential value and driving force behind their art. Though what appears on the surface can be revealed or embellished, only the artist truly knows the inner truth, this honest attitude is what sustains Qwaya’s work.
