- Operation of the Gangneung Pavilion from the September 16 (Mon) to 20 (Fri) for full-fledged promotional activities in cooperation with related organizations -

Gangneung City took to the international stage during the Chuseok holidays to raise awareness of the ITS World Congress 2026 in Gangneung and to draw participation from mobility stakeholders around the world.

Yang Won-mo, Deputy Mayor of Gangneung, as well as officials from the ITS Promotion Division in charge of organizing the ITS World Congress in Gangneung, attended the event taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from September 16 to 20.

Since the participation of as many countries and related organizations as possible is key to the success of the event, the Gangneung Pavilion was operated separately from the Korea Pavilion during this year’s congress for intensive promotional activities.

The pavilion garnered attention by highlighting Gangneung’s vision of intelligent transportation system (ITS) and mobility capabilities to present multifaceted and comprehensive solutions to the problems faced by small and medium-sized cities, such as population decline and aging, economic recession, and urban infrastructure, environment, and safety issues.

In addition to operating the PR hall, Deputy Mayor Yang and others in the delegation interviewed high-ranking officials from ITS India, the UK Department for Transport, the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic, the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority, and the Hamburg Public Transport Association, and actively participate in various programs at the World Congress such as the continental ITS CEO reception and ITS World Congress Board meetings.

Gangneung City plans to bolster awareness of the city within the international community and strengthen its network with ITS-related organizations. At the same time, ideas to successfully host the ITS World Congress in Gangneung will be devised based on what they learn from a tour of the related facilities in Dubai and an analysis of the latest ITS trends.

An official from Gangneung City said, “We will continue to strengthen our promotional activities, in addition to our participation in the ITS World Congress in Dubai, and make thorough preparations for the remaining two years to present opportunities for participants in the ITS World Congress in Gangneung to experience firsthand an advanced mobility environment suitable for small and medium-sized cities, explore innovative solutions to problems using ITS technology, and build new partnerships.

The ITS World Congress2024 was held at the Dubai World Trade Center under the theme of “Mobility Driven by ITS” with the participation of around 20,000 ITS professionals from some 100 countries. In addition to the discussions of urban mobility, mobility and logistics innovation, and eco-friendly mobility, there were various other programs such as demonstrations of cutting-edge technology and academic presentations.
