- A New Era of Tourism Connecting Gangneung and Busan -

​ Gangneung City plans to expand the influx of tourists from Busan, Ulsan, and the Gyeongsang region with the opening of the Donghae Line, revitalizing the local economy by promoting extended-stay tourism.

 First, the city will conduct various marketing initiatives, utilizing influencers and online communities. Working with domestic travel influencers and YouTubers from Japan and Taiwan to produce Gangneung tourism content, year-round promotions will be implemented using online communities and Gangneung Line magazine, as well as outdoor advertisements at major stations and terminals.

 In particular, on February 8 (Saturday), around 50 people, including representatives from Gangneung City and the International Tourism City Citizen Action Movement Promotion Committee(led by Chairman Choi Gil-young), will visit Busan to promote Gangneung’s major tourist attractions, known for their friendliness, integrity and cleanliness, conducting large-scale on-site promotional events such as quizzes and surveys related to Gangneung. 

 In addition, to encourage extended-stay tourism, Gangneung will collaborate with local travel agencies to develop and operate Donghae Line tourism packages, as well as operating a 1-night, 2-day walking tour along Gangneung Bau-gil, a renowned East Coast trekking course, providing time to experience Gangneung’s natural beauty and local content. 

 Eom Guem-moon, Director of Tourism Policy Division, stated, “With the opening of the Donghae Lie, Gangneung will be reborn as one of South Korea’s leading tourism cities, and we will do our best to attract extended-stay tourists, revitalize the local economy, and build a sustainable tourism ecosystem.” ​
