- Proving to be a leading domestic tourist city with 35 million annual visitors -

​ According to the analysis of the 「2023 Regional Tourism Development Index」conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on 151 local governments nationwide, Gangneung City was selected as being  Grade 1, proving its status as a leading domestic tourist destination with 35 million annual visitors. 

 The Regional Tourism Development Index, surveyed and announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism biennially since 2015, serves as a fundamental resource for assessing tourism development in a region. The index evaluates a region on 43 detailed indicators related to tourism capacity, tourism consumption, and tourism policy competency, ranking them on a scale from Grade 1 to Grade 6.  

 Gangneung City achieved Grade 1 overall, particularly excelling with Grade 1 in tourism capacity, involving indicators such as tourism resources and infrastructure, as well as tourism consumption, including indicators such as the number of tourists, tourist satisfaction and tourism expenditure, being recognized as a popular destination for visitors.

 Eom-geum Moon, Director of Tourism Policy Division, stated, “Based on the results of this index analysis, we will assess the current state of tourism in Gangneung and continue to discover attractive tourism content for residents and visitors alike, striving for the revitalization of tourism.” ​
