‘2025 Wolhwa Street Night Market’ opens on May 2 (Friday) bringing energy to Gangneung’s nights.
This year marks the third year of the Wolhwa Street Night Market, which began in 2023.
Local small business owners and entrepreneurs are participating to lead the revitalization of traditional markets and the local economy, especially this year with the participation of many young entrepreneurs, establishing it as a place for youth entrepreneurship opportunities.
Starting with the opening on May 2 (Friday), it will operate every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. up to October 25 (Saturday). It will not operate in case of rain with cancelation announced on the Central Market Instagram and banners.
Under the theme of “A Night on Wolhwa Street Made by Gangneung Citizens”, the Wolhwa Street Market will be a space full of unique food, handicrafts and various attractions unique to Gangneung.
With growing interest in the night market, especially among the MZ generation, new food, interactive booths, performances, and events to target this younger generation will be operated.
In addition, reusable container systems will be implemented through pre-market consultations to enhance convenience for both vendors and visitors.
Safety and hygiene management will also be thoroughly managed by conducting preliminary inspections of the overall operation of the night market, such as electricity and gas facilities, other inspections, sanitation, and safety education on April 25 (Friday).
Kim Nam-gyu, President of the Central Seongnam Integrated Merchants Association, said, “We’ve prepared everything so that locals and tourists alike can create memorable experiences at the Wolhwa Night Market,” adding, “I hope many people will come and experience the taste of Gangneung.”
Gangneung City stated, “With the launch of the Gangneung-Busan ITX train, more tourists are visiting Gangneung this year. We’re preparing thoroughly to ensure the Wolhwa Street Night Market can be a safe and enjoyable place for both tourists and citizens.”
