Gangneung Set to Host Three-Day Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Conference!

- Over 200 Representatives from Top Taiwanese and Korean Travel Agencies Gather to Boost Bilateral Tourism Engagement -

Gangneung City is diligently preparing for the 36th Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Conference. The event will be held at Saint John's Hotel, commencing on Tuesday, June 13, and concluding on Thursday, June 15. Concurrent initiatives are in full swing to warmly welcome international tourists.

This conference, facilitated by the joint efforts of the Korea Association of Travel Agents and the Taiwan Visitors Association (TVA), is a pivotal international event within the Korean-Taiwanese travel industry. More than 200 travel agencies representing the interests of Taiwan and Korea will unite in a collective effort to fortify cooperation, stimulate ongoing exchanges, invigorate tourism in both nations, and actively attract tourists from abroad.

The Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Conference will host comprehensive presentations and vibrant discussions on the latest international tourism trends and policies. These insights will be delivered in the context of key themes, namely, 'Strategies for Restarting International Tourism to Achieve 3 Million Mutual Exchanges' and 'Activation Plan for Themed Tourism,' on Wednesday, June 14.

Prominent attractions that highlight the richness of K-culture, such as the BTS Bus Stop and filming locations for 'The Glory' and 'Goblin,' will be introduced to travel agency representatives, which will further amplify the diverse appeal of Gangneung while bolstering its global recognition.

Moreover, the Gangwon Province Autonomous Corporation is sponsoring a B2B business presentation session. Approximately 80 entities, including travel agencies and accommodation providers from Taiwan and Korea, are expected to participate and the forum will facilitate independent seller-buyer consultations centered around tourism in Gangwon Province.

Specifically, this exchange conference will feature a robust showcase of Gangneung's cultural and tourism resources to all participants.

In Gangneung, participants can revel in the quintessential winter sport, curling, and immerse themselves in 'Wolhagayo,' a unique performance held at the historical and charming venue of Seongyojang that creates a shared and intimate experience by dismantling the traditional barriers between the performers and the audience.

Visitors can further engage in the region's charm by taking a stroll along the naturally scenic Jeongdongjin Simgok Path, and tour standout attractions such as Haslla Art World and Arte Museum. These experiences, curated as part of a fam tour, promise a unique and customized tourism experience.

Gangwon Province and the city of Gangneung have earmarked the time until Sunday, the 18th, as 'Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Week.' The objective is to draw over 1,000 foreign tourists by utilizing overseas travel agencies to provide a diverse selection of inbound tourism packages and experiential programs.

Gangneung Mayor Kim Hong-gyu highlighted the significance of the Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Conference, stating, "This gathering presents an excellent opportunity to exchange tourism information and fortify our travel agency networks. It is a stepping stone towards our eighth-term milestone of becoming a top 100 global tourist city." The mayor emphasized the vision and strategic goals to grow Gangneung into a globally recognized tourism hub.

In anticipation of a surge in tourism demand from overseas, Gangneung City is proactively engaging in international marketing initiatives for Gangwon Province. Activities range from participating in global exhibitions and managing overseas fam tours to developing new inbound tourism offerings and providing dedicated taxi services for foreign tourists, all with the aim of securing a strong foothold in the global tourism marketplace.
