Gangneung Arts Center to Host “Colorful Life” Exhibition

- Showcasing a Variety of Media and Expressive Methods in Contemporary Art -

 

To celebrate the summer vacation and holiday season, the Gangneung Arts Center will host a special exhibition, “Colorful Life,” from July 11 (Thursday) to August 1 (Thursday) across its first, second, and third exhibition halls.

 

This exhibition features the perspectives of six contemporary artists, utilizing different media and expressive methods to share stories about diverse lives.

 

The works, drawing from the artists’ experiences, imaginations, and social awareness, offer a unique perspective on our daily lives.

 

Over 40 artworks by six artistsKoo Seong-yeon, Roe Dong-sik, Yoo Young-wun, Lee Jung-yoon, Jung Sung-won, and Han Howill be on display. These pieces span multiple disciplines, such as painting, photography, installation, sculpture, drawing, and media, highlighting the diversity of contemporary art.

 

In the first exhibition hall, artist Roe Dong-sik uses cotton to convey childhood memories with a touch of fairy-tale imagination. Meanwhile, artist Jung Sung-won creates a utopia filled with innocence and happiness, featuring animals like rabbits, deer, and sheep.

 

In the second exhibition hall, artist Han Ho uses subtle light passing through Korean paper to explore the historical pains experienced by our nation, aiming for healing.

 

In the third exhibition hall, artist Koo Seong-yeon utilizes candy and sugar in his photographic works to comment on the traits of modern material civilization and the present, while artist Lee Jung-yoon blends various media, including large air sculptures and drawings, to transform ordinary daily life into something extraordinary.

 

Moreover, artist Yoo Young-wun reproduces icons of the era shaped by mass media using paper prints, providing an opportunity to reflect on the impact of mass media on daily life.

 

The exhibition is free and open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. As a way to enhance visitors’ understanding, docent programs are offered twice daily (2:00 and 4:00 p.m.; sign up on-site). For more details, please contact the Gangneung Arts Center at 033-660-2474.
