- Special exhibition at Gangneung City Museum of Art, SOLOL in celebration of 70th anniversary of city status -

​ Gangneung City Museum of Art, SOLOL will host a special exhibition titled <Ecologism: A Solidarity of Images> from July 23 (Wed) to September 28 (Sun), commemorating the 70th anniversary of Gangneung’s designation as a city.

 This exhibition presents the vision of contemporary artists seeking new ways to coexist with the Earth, moving away from human-centered thinking, and offering an artistic response to the global environmental crisis with seven pieces of media art. 

 Artists participating in the exhibition, Kim Uljiro, Seoul Express (Jeon Youjin, Hong Minki), Lee Sujin, and Jung Haejung, each uses their unique global perspectives and innovative visual language to illuminate the global ecological crisis facing humanity from various angles. 

 By visualizing global issues through their artworks, such as the decline in land area due to rising sea levels, the reality of extreme weather events becoming the norm, and the decline of biodiversity, they pose questions to visitors about the possibility of restoring destroyed nature and the world that future generations will experience. 

 Through various forms of media art, visitors will once again recognize that humans are part of the ecosystem and have the opportunity to redefine a harmonious relationship with nature.  

 This media art exhibition breaks away from the common notion that art should be shown in dark spaces, instead constructing the museum space using various levels of light to offer a spatially new experience.

 In August, a media façade themed “Gangneung’s Nature As Seen by AI” will be presented against the backdrop of the museum’s outdoor building, showcasing the process of feeling art and emotion for the first time, along with the museum’s landscape.
